The newborn was waiting for E. coli, sepsis, and then the coronavirus. Will he survive?

Archie was born prematurely. A premature baby born in England overcame E. coli, survived sepsis, and to top it all off, was infected with coronavirus, but managed to recover from that as well. The parents call him their little warrior.

His mother, Shiri Murray, gave birth to Archie on December 1, 2020, at 25 weeks gestation. He weighed only 765 grams. At five weeks, he contracted E. coli, and the baby developed sepsis. Several weeks later, doctors told his parents that the boy had tested positive for Covid-19. He had to be isolated for 10 days, which seemed like an eternity to his mother.

After Archie was born, he could not breathe on his own and, as Murray explained, she and the boy’s father, Robert, were very worried as doctors fought for his life for about 40 minutes. The parents couldn’t touch their child for four days, but when they were finally allowed to hold his hand, Murray says it was the most magical moment of her life.

Now a 21-year-old girl spends every day with her son in the hospital in Burnley.

Parents cannot visit Archie together because of the pandemic. She said the news of her son’s positive Covid-19 test shocked her because the virus kills even healthy people, and her child was already weakened by illness. “I was scared to death,” she said.

According to the girl, when she was allowed to hold Archi after 10 days of isolation, she felt like she could breathe again. “I was on cloud nine with happiness!” – She shared.

When Mom was finally allowed to take Archie’s hand in hers, it was the most magical moment of her life. Now Archie weighs 1.36 kg and feels better than ever. His parents are able to visit him, but because of the pandemic, they are forced to do so separately. His full name is Archie Terry Marcel Edward. Terry was named after his late grandfather and Marcel because of the meaning of the name (little warrior). “I feel like I could explode with happiness – I am so proud of him. Words cannot describe how much I want to bring him home as soon as possible,” said Murray.
